Sequestering in our 2020 bunker has not been fun. We endured the isolation by enjoying home-crafted cocktails. Being an amateur, I made mistakes tinkering with the Roaring 20s recipes. We managed to “choke down” the occasional “blunder.” My wife called it “Taking one for the team.” The book
describes our pandemic concoctions.

We held 6:00 pm backyard “Happy Hours,” connecting with friends with often hilarious text
messages and exchanging a picture of some cocktail creation. A couple or two would join us in
our Happy Hours on our backyard pergola. We were careful and applied appropriate social
distancing protocols. If it was chilly, we donned jackets and blankets, and luckily our terrace had
heaters and a fire pit.
My wife and I socialized with friends via messaging. It worked; we had fun, kept our sanity,
and stayed in touch. We donned the theme, “Roaring Twenties,” as our year was the start of the
21st century. Our 20s got off to a horrific start with the COVID-19 pandemic. We elected to look
back at the 1920s for inspiration. That decade, characterized by Prohibition, is noted for its
creative, exciting historical cocktails. Pandemic or not, we were determined to have fun in our
first year of the 21st-century “Twenties.”
