Roger Johnson, the leader of The Hubcaps, is often considered the “Godfather” of early rock and roll garage bands in Jersey. His influence sparked the formation of numerous spin-off groups in the '60s and '70s.
Many believe Roger Johnson’s impact laid the groundwork for two of New Jersey's most famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees: Bon Jovi and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. John Bongiovi (Bon Jovi) graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School a decade after Roger Johnson and me. Some even say Bon Jovi’s career followed in the footsteps Roger first paved at Sayreville High.
This book contains stories of The Hubcaps, my later band The Misfits, and our many "gigs." It also delves into the history of several other contemporary garage bands from the '60s. With 34 pictures and illustrations, the book captures the essence of The Hubcaps, fellow musicians, and the bands that followed in their wake.
