Growing up poor on a farm in New Jersey, the youngest of six brothers and two sisters in a family of limited means, George Tamburello worked hard on his family’s and neighboring farms and learned to survive the Depression. With virtually no formal education and barely able to read and write, George joined the Army and fought with the 88th Division in Italy. German artillery pounded his unit as it moved north up the Italian mainland. The enemy artillery shelling nearly killed him. Surgeons removed a jagged piece of shrapnel from between his eyes. That incident made him the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
After the Army, George carved a life as a builder, skilled craftsman, carpenter, and self-taught investor in securities.
From any measure, George Tamburello would be judged highly successful. A generous man, he paid college tuition and living expenses for his three daughters, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was truly a man of “The Greatest Generation.”
